About Rivers of Hope Initiative
The Rivers of Hope and Humanitarian Initiative (ROHI) is a
women-led non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 2003 and formally registered with the
Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2009 under CAC/IT/NO 36027. Operating as a non-for-profit
and Non-Governmental Organization, ROHI is an active member of several important coalitions and
networks, including the Civil Society Coalition on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (CISHAN), Civil Society for
Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), Network of People Living with HIV and AIDS
in Nigeria (NEPWHAN), Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN), and the
Association of Orphan and Vulnerable Children NGOs in Nigeria (AONN). With its central office located in Rivers State, ROHI also has an operational presence in Bayelsa, Delta, and AkwaIbom
States.
Initially established to address gaps within civil society, ROHI has evolved into an independent
research-focused entity contributing to policy development and advocacy, emphasizing the rights
and wellbeing of Nigeria's minority groups. The organization's main aim includes conducting
research, detailed analysis, training, awareness campaigns, and advocacy to influence policies and
improve conditions for marginalized communities. ROHI's vision began with a mission to promote
attitude change through structured advocacy, impactful research, and comprehensive training
programs.
Over time, ROHI's scope expanded to incorporate targeted interventions addressing significant
societal challenges, particularly issues affecting Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC), women's
rights, and gender-based violence. The organization has also dedicated efforts toward supporting
Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW), as well as Female Sex Workers (FSW). Through
these efforts, ROHI now spearheads initiatives that promote human rights reforms, specifically for
Persons Living with HIV/AIDS, encompassing awareness, treatment access, and sensitization
campaigns. The organization's work is anchored in fostering holistic health and social welfare
improvements, driven by its core commitment to advocacy, community outreach, and support for
underrepresented and vulnerable groups.
